Medicine (Latin medicina, from medicus - medical, curative, medeor - treat, heal) is a system of scientific knowledge and practical measures, united by the purpose of recognizing, treating and preventing diseases, preserving and strengthening the health and working capacity of people, and prolonging life.

Modern medicine has developed as a result of a long historical process; the state of medicine has always been determined by the degree of development of society, the socio-economic system, the achievements of natural science and technology, and the general level of culture.

The more I pay, the better the cure. It should be remembered that in medicine almost nothing can be guaranteed "one hundred percent". Much depends on the individual, often unpredictable, characteristics of the human body. For example: the doctor prescribed the absolutely correct treatment, the most expensive medicines were purchased, and the patient has an individual intolerance or insensitivity to one of the drugs. Payment for treatment is taken for time, effort, erudition, professional skills, as well as analyzes and procedures. The result of applying the above measures and means most often depends on the state of the human body. Health cannot be bought.

According to the test results, they cannot make a diagnosis, which means that the delivery of these is useless. This is not true. First, the absence of deviations from the norm is also a result. Secondly, the doctor cannot always make the correct diagnosis based only on examination and taking anamnesis. Sometimes more research is needed. Thirdly, some difficult-to-diagnose diseases are detected by the method of exclusion (if this and this is not there, then this is this and that). And finally, good tests are controls, i.e. when comparing the same analyzes in dynamics, it is possible to calculate the period of onset of the disease, and this is sometimes very important.

Modern diagnostics are carried out very quickly. Indeed, the results of some tests can be obtained quite quickly (for example, general blood and urine tests, X-rays or ultrasound are ready on the day of the study or the next day). However, there are studies that are very important for a correct diagnosis, the result of which needs to wait a week or more. These are microbiological studies associated with inoculation. Some pathogenic microorganisms grow slowly on artificial media, therefore, if you start studying the results too early, you can draw wrong conclusions about the qualitative and quantitative state of the microflora of the test material. In our time, express methods of microbiological analysis (determination of antibodies in the blood, biochemical study of microbial metabolites, etc.) are widespread, however, they are less reliable and reliable than classical crops.

A good cure is a quick recovery, and vice versa. Of course, in some cases (sepsis, fever, acute intoxication, rapidly growing negative dynamics), strong and fast-acting drugs are prescribed, where high efficiency is directly related to the toxic effect (the more effective the drug, the more side effects it has - this is the law). After such treatment, long-term restorative therapy is most often carried out. Some treatment regimens are aimed at stimulating the body's own defense mechanisms (for example, the treatment of dysbiosis using a complex immunoglobulin preparation and preparations containing live bacteria - eubiotics). In order for the body to begin to heal itself, it takes time, and it is different for each patient (taking into account age, immunity, etc.). Some drugs give an effect only when a sufficient amount of them accumulates in the body (for example, ketotifen, vitamin D, some antibiotics). In addition, it should be remembered that acute diseases heal much faster than chronic ones.

Having visited different doctors, I myself will choose how to be treated. Different schemes of diagnostic examination and therapy can be used for the same disease. In this case, the specialist focuses on his experience, intuition, professional skills, erudition, takes into account the feasibility of expensive and unsafe research, possible combinations of various drugs, suggesting what the effect and side effects of drugs may be. If for reassurance you have visited different doctors, in no case do not choose on your own something from their recommendations for "pieces". The best way out is to choose the most competent and convincing, in your opinion, specialist, tell him about the opinions of other doctors and unquestioningly follow his recommendations. Otherwise, you risk either causing the opposite effect, or becoming a victim of side effects of certain drugs.

An infected person will definitely get sick. This is true only if the amount of the pathogen is large enough and exceeds the threshold of immunity to it. In other cases, a defense mechanism will work and the infection will be neutralized by the body. The weaker the immunity, the lower the resistance threshold, and, accordingly, a smaller amount of the pathogen is needed for the development of the disease. In addition, there is an asymptomatic carriage of certain microorganisms (staphylococci, fungi, salmonella, rotaviruses, lamblia), which often ends with the spontaneous release of the organism from the pathogen.

I am better informed than a doctor. This myth is generated by the fact that in our time there is a lot of available medical and popular literature, which creates the illusion of a good knowledge of medicine. However, it should be remembered that the knowledge of a specialist is much deeper, systematized and supported by many years of practice. In addition, textbooks, reference books, articles give a classic description of the symptoms of the disease. In real life, many diseases are atypical (non-standard), and only a doctor can not make a mistake when making a diagnosis and determining treatment methods.

I have a hereditary predisposition to this disease, so it is useless to treat it. Before making such a decision, you should still contact a specialist. Science does not stand still, as a result of a number of studies it turned out that, for example, gastritis, gastric ulcer, bronchial asthma, which were considered hereditary, are in fact infectious diseases transmitted by prolonged close contact to other family members. In addition, in the process of examining and treating all family members, in which a predisposition to certain diseases is traced, the pathology does not develop, and in subsequent generations the predisposition also disappears.

I was once examined - there was no illness. Where would he come from now? People, like their organisms, change, sometimes very quickly. Some changes (growing up, aging, etc.), stress, staying in the foci of infection can lead to the onset of illness. Therefore, the results of some analyzes, examinations, studies conducted a month, a year, a week ago may not correspond to the state of affairs at this point in time. It should also be noted that some diseases in the early stages are very difficult to identify. Therefore, repeated analyzes should not be abandoned.

It is best to be treated and examined in a hospital. This statement is true only if the disease is infectious or requires urgent surgical intervention or constant monitoring by specialists. Acute illnesses that do not require emergency care, i.e. proceeding in a mild or moderate form, without complications, as well as some chronic diseases, are best treated on an outpatient basis (i.e. without hospitalization).

The head hurts from the pressure. Only in very rare cases. Hypertension usually has no symptoms at all.

High blood pressure makes you feel dizzy. Wrong. Dizziness is most often a side effect of treatment.

Diabetics are very fond of sugar. Diabetics actually have to lower their sugar intake, so sometimes they need an urgent sugar dose when their blood glucose drops too low. However, it is wrong to think that the need for sugar is the same as diabetes.

Diabetics should only buy special foods and drinks that are low in sugar. No, just eating a healthy diet is enough.

Diet is enough to lower blood cholesterol levels. This is not true. If your cholesterol levels are indeed above normal, diet alone isn't enough. High cholesterol is usually treated with statins.

Headaches are a symptom of a brain tumor. Let's clarify - this is just one of the symptoms. A brain tumor is more often characterized by other symptoms: seizures, personality changes, or anxiety.

Antibiotics should not be taken at the same time as alcohol. Alcohol interacts very slightly with antibiotics, with the exception of metronidazole, which is used to treat various infections, which, when mixed with even small doses of alcohol, causes nausea.

I bought antibiotics - be sure to take the whole course, and not a day less! More often than not, it is not decisive how complete the course of treatment is.

Anemia causes fatigue. It should be remembered that fatigue is common and, in the absence of other symptoms, is most often attributed to high levels of stress and lack of physical activity. Since a mild form of iron deficiency anemia is common, especially in women, blood tests and anemia are mistakenly believed to be the cause of fatigue. And yet - vitamins will not help with fatigue.

I got a flu shot and got infected. This is a misconception. After vaccination, a person may have a slight fever - but that's all. The fact is that there are no live bacteria in the vaccine, so it cannot cause the flu.
