Every great person after his death becomes an object of study. Historians and biographers delve into the fate of a person, trying to find out all the nuances of his life, to understand what drove him. For most of us, geniuses and tyrants are known and understood only by their deeds. But they were ordinary people, with their passions, hobbies and complexes.
In addition, history often serves propaganda purposes, which makes the appearance of great people the way it is beneficial at the moment. But there are no ideally good or bad people. Post-war history trumpets with might and main about what a disgusting phenomenon National Socialism was. The authorities tacitly agreed to tarnish the name of the leader of the German people.
Journalists and historians did not particularly delve into the truth, creating legends and myths about Hitler. And the debunked myths about him will prove it.
Hitler had Jewish roots. Biographers usually begin their research of great people from their past. The famous German historian Ralph Jan, who managed to find more than three thousand Schiller ancestors, published a book about Hitler's family. In it, he refutes this myth. The version that Adolf's grandmother, Maria Anna Schicklgruber, had an extramarital affair with a Jew, does not stand up to criticism. The legend is based on the following. The Fuhrer's father, Alois, was the illegitimate son of a maid who served the Rothschilds. It is believed that there she was actively courted by one of the family members. But then Adolf's grandmother married Johann Hiedler, who, again according to rumors, was a descendant of Czech Jews. Alois took his stepfather's surname, changing it to Hitler. The father of the future dictator had three wives, the last one, Clara Pelzl, gave birth to Adolf. It was rumored that she was also Jewish. However, the supporters of this myth cite in its proof many facts that can be classified as rumors. It is seriously argued that there is no smoke without fire. And the very behavior of Hitler, who forbade researching his ancestry, is alarming. The version of Hitler's Jewish roots is supported by the records of Hans Frank, the Governor-General of Poland. In them, the fascist told how, back in 1930, Hitler called on him for help with blackmailers who threatened to reveal the truth about his origin. However, Frank wrote these notes already in prison, when his death sentence was already in the air. And there were more than enough inconsistencies in these memories.
Hitler's real name is Adolf Schicklgruber. This delusion even got into the Great Soviet Encyclopedia. Alois, Hitler's father, was the illegitimate son of Maria Anna Schicklgruber and Johann Hitler. They married when Alois was five years old. At the age of forty, he changed his last name, taking it from his stepfather. And the son of Alois, Adolf, was born only twelve years later. From the very beginning he bore the name Hitler.
Hitler's father was an alcoholic. It would have been difficult for a customs official in Austria-Hungary to be an alcoholic in those days. If this happened, it would certainly have been reflected in the service documents of Alois Hitler. But this myth is not supported by anything. Historians, although they consider Alois rather unpleasant, nevertheless note his love of life, hard work and tolerance. Hitler's father's addiction to alcohol is described as "moderate."
In childhood, his father beat Adolf. Alois took his children seriously. But his eldest son, also Alois, turned out to be unlucky. He left home. His father considered him a bum. Alois turned all his attention to his second son, Adolf, not wanting him to repeat the fate of his brother. This kind of control could not be pleasant, as a result of which the 11-year-old had a serious conversation with his father. And it was Adolf who emerged victorious from that dispute. It became clear that the boy had strong willpower and stubborn character, his father could no longer influence him physically or mentally. And the close attention of his father led to the fact that he simply discouraged Adolf from studying.
Hitler did poorly at school. Talking about poor performance at the Fuhrer's school can be applied to foreign languages. Hitler himself later even regretted it. In his autobiography, the Fuhrer wrote that only personal dislike for the teacher prevented success in languages. The teacher of natural sciences also spoke about the fact that the young Adolf was a capable student. Hitler adored his own history teacher. Here you can draw an analogy with the enemy of the Fuhrer, Churchill. He studied poorly, studying only those subjects that were interesting to him. As a result, the success turned out to be extremely bad, as for a representative of his circle. Winston's father even admitted that his son had no chance of becoming a lawyer. The close-minded, as it seemed, the young man, was able to enter a military school only on the third attempt. Biographers note that in elementary school, Hitler generally studied perfectly well. In 1896 he entered the second grade of the Benedictine school. And here Adolf received good grades, sang in the choir and earned the position of assistant priest at mass. In 1900, Adolf, after the family moved, entered the first class of a real school in Linz. The change from the countryside to the urban one was striking for him. He began to do more what he liked - geography, drawing, history. After the death of his father, there was no incentive to study at all, but Adolf promised his mother to attend classes. In the certificate of a real school received in 1905, the grades were excellent for drawing and physical education, and in German, French, mathematics and stenography - unsatisfactory.
Hitler is a mediocre artist. It is difficult to subjectively evaluate the creativity of this person. After all, I just want to accuse him of mediocrity under the influence of a completely different activity. Even as a child, Hitler decided that he would become an artist. Researchers agree that Adolf had an artistic taste and was a good draftsman. Little known fact - the design of the famous Volkswagen Beetle was invented by Hitler. An important test for Adolf was admission to the Vienna Academy of Arts in 1907. The young man rode there filled with hopes and even with confidence in the result. Hitler went through the first round, drawing a couple of sketches on a given theme. But in the second part of the exam, Adolf was eliminated - there were too few drawings of plaster models in the homework he presented. And when it was necessary to draw a portrait, the applicant was completely effaced. Hitler himself noted that he liked architecture more, his artistic talent was suppressed by drawing. The rector of the academy advised the applicant to simply do what he likes and succeeds best - architecture. And in 1909-1910, Hitler began to work both as a draftsman and as a watercolorist. His inexpensive but quality watercolors sold well. The young man naturally had a better opinion of his talents than they really were. But he was clearly not mediocre either. Besides, are all geniuses recognized during their lifetime, and they enter the academy the first time?
Hitler had obvious sexual deviations. Versions about Hitler's problems sexually break on one simple argument - very little is known about the Fuhrer's sex life. His personal doctors, as well as close friends, testified that Hitler was absolutely normal in terms of his sexual inclinations and habits. And his long-term lover Eva Braun was a completely normal woman. She not only came to Adolf in Berlin, but also agreed to marry him, and then die with him. This suggests that Hitler had the ability to have a long lasting relationship. It was British historians who wrote that Hitler preferred abnormal sex, because of which his four mistresses even committed suicide.
Hitler was impotent. Impotence has always been considered a shame for a man, which is why Hitler's enemies always blamed him for it. And this legend appeared according to the memoirs of one of the Fuhrer's close associates. Allegedly, leaving his bedroom after the first night, Eva Braun shook her head and spread her arms. However, the supporters of this myth cannot provide any real names, evidence. Moreover, after the fall of Berlin, many contraceptives were found in Eva Braun's locker. But why were they needed if Hitler was impotent? It was said that the leader's problems were chronic due to a removed testicle. However, there is no medical certificate about this either.
Hitler was homosexual. The version of Hitler's hidden homosexual inclinations appeared in 1943, thanks to the Americans. They tried to make a psychological portrait of their opponent in order to try to predict his actions. But the researchers noted that there are so few facts in favor of this version that conclusions cannot be drawn. The stories of Adolf's homosexual experience while still in Vienna as a young man are full of inconsistencies and inconsistencies. There were indeed gays in the ranks of the National Socialists. Even when during the "Night of the Long Knives" the SS began to eliminate the leaders of the stormtroopers, it turned out that they were sleeping with a batman, or just with a cute guy. But what does Hitler have to do with it? At one time, Albert Speer ridiculed such rumors. He stressed that the Fuhrer was often not up to sex. Historian Glenn Infield, who studied precisely the intimate life of the main Nazi, also came to the conclusion about the completely natural sexuality of the Fuhrer. At that time, his mistresses were still alive, based on their stories, it was possible to find out the truth. And Hitler appreciated the female body, which can be seen even from his drawings. In addition, it is no secret that at different periods of his life the Fuhrer had mistresses.
Hitler is guilty of Geli Raubal's suicide. Geli's relationship with her uncle began in 1925 and lasted until her death in 1931. Hitler dearly loved Geli and she recently lived in his apartment. It is believed that the cause of death lies in Hitler's terrible jealousy and in the fact that he kept the young woman locked up. Contemporaries recalled that Geli was an apolitical person who simply enjoyed life. But how could this be in the status of a prisoner? According to the official version, having quarreled with Hitler, the mistress shot herself from his own pistol. However, the police report noted that the door was locked from the inside. Hitler himself reacted sharply to the death of his beloved. He seemed ready to commit suicide. Adolf refused food and water, stopped talking.
Hitler was a masochist. In support of this myth, a letter from one of his mistresses, actress Renata Müller, is cited. She said that the Fuhrer demanded to beat himself with a whip, kick in private places, insult and use foul language. However, this hack appeared when Hitler was already the head of the country, and all the correspondence of his girlfriends was carefully studied by the security authorities. Had such a letter been born, it simply would not have reached the addressee, being destroyed. In 1945, the researchers got the letters and personal diaries of Eva Braun, where there are no hints of her husband's masochistic inclinations.
Hitler had problems with the genitals. In addition to the already mentioned rumor about Hitler's monarchism (the presence of only one testicle), they also said that the leader still had a small penis. And this legend has spread through many books and articles. The experts who examined Hitler's corpse are to blame for her appearance. The autopsy report says that the left testicle was not found either in the scrotum, or in the seminal canals, or in the small pelvis. In 1968, it was suggested that this vice of Hitler was not mentioned anywhere during his lifetime, as he strongly refused to see doctors. However, there is no doubt that from 1934 to 1945, the Fuhrer was very often examined by medical specialists, without protesting against examining his genitals. And Hitler's corpse was burned so much that even his skull disintegrated into separate parts. How it was possible to examine the genitals of a person, digging, in fact, in a pile of ash.
Hitler constantly took drugs due to nervous strain. In his youth, Hitler smoked a lot, sometimes up to 40 cigarettes a day. But over time, he gave up this bad habit, realizing that he wastes money on this hobby. Later, Hitler gave up not only tobacco, but also alcohol. And before the performances, he took pills with caffeine, cola and sugar. The so-called Dalman pills helped reduce fatigue and stimulate the body. Yes, they are still freely sold today. Hitler also actively contributed to the anti-smoking campaign in Germany. In the Third Reich, the death penalty was generally imposed on drug addiction and the distribution of such drugs. And the myth of Hitler the addict appeared thanks to the esoteric Aleister Crowley. She stated that she personally taught the Fuhrer the magic arts and at the same time introduced him to exotic drugs. However, there is no evidence of the use of psychotropic drugs by the fascist leader. And he did not meet with Crowley. Even the fashion for cocaine in the 1920s bypassed Adolf, because he had to live on a pittance. With all the rejection of Hitler's personality, it is worth recognizing that he had a sound mind, well-developed logical thinking and he simply did not need chemicals for intoxication. It is also important to note the role of the personal physician of the Fuhrer, Theo Morel. At one time he took up the treatment of the Fuhrer, that health had already been undermined. The more drugs the doctor gave him, the stronger the side effects were. Morel was forced to resort to more and more potent drugs. By 1944, Hitler had effectively become addicted to his doctor's stimulants.
Hitler was an alcoholic. And in this case, there is no basis for such a myth. Hitler did not feel a craving for wine, since at one time he drank too much in a real school and got into an unpleasant situation. Since then, the German decided to give up alcohol altogether. However, he allowed himself beer, drinking one or two mugs. But Hitler did not impose his views on anyone.
The most dangerous internal enemies of Hitler were the communists and social democrats. The latter, although opposed to Hitler, never seemed dangerous to him. The only political competitors that Hitler had to reckon with were the Conservatives in 1930-1934. And the communists, like the centrists with the liberals, initially seemed to him to be small players. And after 1934, when Hitler received unlimited power, the situation remained the same. Socialists, liberals and Christians inside and outside Germany posed no threat to the Nazis. The communists, on the other hand, portrayed the resistance purely symbolically. Conservatives were still a problem. It is no coincidence that all those who were among the conspirators against Hitler represented precisely this political force. Even the assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 was considered a highly conservative act.
Hitler hated Jews from his youth. Hitler is considered the main anti-Semite in history. However, his dislike of Jews appeared only after the First World War, at an already mature age. Hitler believed that the image of a single enemy would help unite disparate groups. Living in Vienna and Linz, the future leader did not express his hatred of Jews.He attended performances staged and played by people of this nationality. And his family doctor, to whom Hitler treated warmly, was also a Jew. And in general, it would be naive to expect that an ideologist will blindly believe in the ideology that he imposes on the masses.
Hitler was a fascist. In fact, such a seemingly logical statement is erroneous. If you analyze what fascism is, the following will become clear. This is the dominance of the upper classes, which is based on artificially generated mass enthusiasm. Proceeding from this, Hitler was not a fascist, his goals and methods were much closer to Stalin than to Mussolini. The ideology of the Nazis promoted ideals that were almost opposite to the fascist ones, in which the hierarchy of society looked like an estate-civilian one. In pre-war Czechoslovakia, radical students adored the Italian leader and his ideas. In Germany, the youth admired Nazism. They both hated each other and fought fiercely. The identification of fascism with Nazism occurred due to the fact that Germany and Italy became allies in World War II. But after all, nobody seeks to equate the ideology of the USSR and the United States, which helped each other during these years.
Hitler was a mediocre military leader. History has gone down the scornful characterization of "Bohemian corporal" given to Hitler by President von Hindenburg. This nickname was taken up, it emphasized the amateurishness of the man who took over the command of a huge army. It was believed that throughout the Second World War, Hitler constantly intervened in the command of the troops. This narcissistic man did not want to listen to anyone, and at the end of the war he completely lost touch with reality. They even say that it was the personal qualities of the Fuhrer that prevented Germany from winning the war. Such rumors are beneficial to the German generals, who, with their help, manage to save their reputation. By the way, Field Marshals Kluge and Keitel still considered Hitler a military genius. In 1955, the FRG even published a book by K. Riker "One man loses the world war." However, critics often forget that Hitler made his decisions, being not just a military man, but also a politician, head of state. Based on this, he was dominated by many factors that the military were simply unknown to. They say that Hitler did not allow long-range bombers to form, but they forget that the country simply did not have the resources for this. Even before the outbreak of World War II, the actions of the Fuhrer did not find support from the generals, he also took a reasonable risk, taking into account the political situation and the indecision of England and France. In 1940, it was Hitler's genius who allowed France to be defeated. But one should not exaggerate his military talents, especially since the Fuhrer clearly made serious mistakes. This became especially noticeable towards the end of the war, when the leader's health was undermined. But they no longer had a fateful influence.
Hitler was fond of the occult sciences and was a medium. In Hitler they saw almost the viceroy of the devil, endowing him with demonic power. Many books have been written about Hitler's occult interest. However, most often it turns out that the former comrades-in-arms, who betrayed the Fuhrer, explain their cooperation with him precisely by supernatural forces. Allegedly, people were attracted to Hitler, he literally hypnotized them. They talked about the leader's ties with Tibet, that they even defended him in Berlin. But the found SS men with Asian features were simply French, immigrants from Indochina. And after the war, the Germans suddenly felt embarrassed that all the people supported the Nazis. The best way was to blame everything on Hitler, who had bewitched everyone's mind. In fact, Hitler's ideas found understanding among the Germans, he said and did what everyone wanted to see and hear. Hitler was a talented public speaker and a good psychologist who took his chance. But what does mysticism have to do with it?
Hitler came up with the theory of racial superiority. In fact, it was not Hitler who invented it. Throughout history, any civilization considered itself special, surrounded by close neighbors. They were in Egypt, Rome, and China. And in Europe, the idea of the superiority of one race over another on a scientific basis was formed back in the 19th century. The French intellectual de Gobineau created a treatise "On the inequality of human races." Specifically, it was argued that the Germanic branch of the white race should not mix with others, otherwise it will degenerate. And the publication of this work took place even before the birth of Hitler! Another racial theorist was an Englishman. Houston Chamberlain wrote in 1899 about the creative Teutonic principle and the confrontation with the destructive Jewish. It was then that the concept of the Aryan race appeared. Of course, theorists did not write anything about the total destruction of the lower races. But the concept of eliminating the mentally disabled was also invented before Nazism. Back in 1920, in a respectable and democratic Germany, a book by two professors appeared, "Permission to destroy life unworthy to exist." And such views were quite popular in Europe. In 1921, Germany even created a government commission to promote abortion and sterilize people with disabilities.
Hitler was crazy. This is a very fashionable myth, Hitler was often called demoniac. Even Guderian, one of the Fuehrer's favorites, wrote in his memoirs that Germany was led by a deeply insane person. There are several reasons for the appearance of such a legend - everyone just wanted to humiliate the villain and endow him with the most negative features. It also removed responsibility from the German society itself, whose ideas and mentality pushed Hitler's actions. First of all, it should be said that, according to psychiatrists, completely healthy people do not exist at all. Each of us has some kind of fears, complexes, obsessions. The unhealthy atmosphere in the family, the failure of the artist's career - all this left its traces. In addition, Hitler went through the war, which also entailed psychological trauma, like millions of others. Psychologists convicted the Fuhrer of narcissism, paranoia, but these are not necessarily symptoms of schizophrenia. On the other hand, if a normal person were devoid of personality deviations, could he reach such heights of power? Self-confidence, in his chosenness helped Hitler to stubbornly go towards the goal.
Hitler hated the Slavs. In fact, the attitude towards the Eastern European peoples was not at all as tough as towards the Jews. They embodied all the world's evil and, according to the Fuhrer, represented a threat to the people. And the Slavs, for the Fuhrer, are just another inferior people, like the Chinese or Negroes. In his Mein Kampf, Hitler directly writes that Germany simply needs a new living space. And the Slavs are simply that extra population, from which it is necessary to get rid of. And the attitude to the Slavs as barbarians and our lower culture in Germany was cultivated for generations, long before Hitler.
Hitler secretly met with Stalin. Historians categorically refute the meeting of the two great tyrants. However, not so long ago, this myth was revived by Edward Radzinsky. An old railroad worker told him the story of how on October 16, 1939, a mysterious train with heavy security appeared at the station. A document was also found in the US National Archives, where the special services testified about the meeting in Lviv between Stalin and Hitler. Radzinsky proves his theory with a journal of Stalin's visits, which did not receive anyone on October 18 and appeared only on 19 late at night. But Stalin, who did not fly by air at that time, was physically unable to travel from Moscow to Lvov and back in two days. In addition, in the new territories there was also another railway track. And on October 18-19, the USSR sent troops to the territory of Estonia. An official delegation of this country was in Moscow, which solved all technical issues. And what was Stalin talking about with Hitler? The non-aggression pact was signed on August 23, and on September 29 the parties have already signed the Treaty of Friendship and Borders.
Hitler and Eva Braun survived, fled to Argentina. This myth is constantly fueled by the yellow press. Even photographs of the allegedly aged Fuhrer are published. They say that he died in 1964. According to other legends, Hitler was captured by SMERSH and taken to Moscow. Later, Stalin used it as a lever of pressure on his Western allies, who quickly became opponents. However, historians have practically no doubt that in the spring of 1945, Adolf Hitler and his wife committed suicide. The Soviet secret services were most interested in establishing the truth. The operation took place under the code name "Myth". In our time, a lot of documents about the course of the investigation have been declassified. From these papers it becomes clear that at the end of the investigation, Soviet specialists were convinced of the death of Adolf Hitler.
