Secrets of airliners

Aviation is the most modern and fastest among all modes of transport. Sometimes it even seems surprising and strange that all this is available to almost anyone.

Millions of people fly by airplanes without even thinking about how many ingenious inventions and secrets they are surrounded by on board. But these giant planes have many interesting secrets of their own.

Explosive charges are located inside the engine. It turns out that fire cartridges are located inside the engines of such aircraft. And their function is to prevent fires in engines. Airplanes usually have two such charges. The second is duplicate. If the first charge fails, then replacing it will still allow the plane to gain a few necessary minutes until a landing site is found.

The plane may have hidden serious damage. We look at the handsome liner and do not suspect that it can have very serious breakdowns. It is profitable for companies to have their planes fly as often as possible at full load. A high-quality repair cannot be carried out in a few hours, it stretches for whole days. All malfunctions detected on the liner are recorded in the MMEL (Master Minimum Equipment List) document. If passengers had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with such a list, few people would want to travel by this plane. For example, the system allows a liner to take off even with half of the potentially working systems. But the final decision on the possibility of departure is made only by the captain. But no one bothers the owner to find a compliant employee.

Air enters the passenger compartment from the engine. The air inside the plane is not at all the same as outside. The fact is that at high altitudes the air is discharged and unsuitable for breathing. People need to be constantly conscious. To do this, air is supplied to the passenger compartment and cab, which passes through the engines and is then compressed.

Emergency decompression is very dangerous. It is no coincidence that pilots advise you to put a mask on your face before helping others. And this is extremely important advice. At an altitude, the air is so rarefied that in the event of an emergency decompression, it will be possible to remain conscious only for 30-45 seconds. And it is so cold at the altitude that the air temperature can reach 60 degrees below zero Celsius.

Oxygen masks - temporary help. The design of the masks is such that they can work no more than 12 minutes after they are unpacked. During this time, pilots need to descend to an altitude where they can breathe normally. And masks will not protect against gases or smoke.

Life rafts. The operating principle of life rafts seems so simple that few people read the safety instructions while on board. The figure may depict people holding onto the raft with one hand. They swim side by side rather than sitting on top of the life craft. This is important to note as the raft will capsize if someone tries to climb onto it.

Security certificate and bribery tests. When airlines were conducting tests with training evacuations of passengers, a dead end suddenly appeared. The participants in the simulated critical events behaved very calmly and even politely with each other. But it was completely unlike the real situation. Researchers wondered how to make people feel truly desperate. It was found that it was enough to promise a $ 30 reward to each participant to get out of the salon first. As a result, a plausible situation was created, people behaved like average passengers in a pushing and panicking crowd trying to get out.

Ban on the use of portable electronics. Recently, airlines are increasingly lifting the ban on the use of portable electronics by passengers during flights. It's just that the officials have finally listened to common sense. Gadgets do not affect the aircraft's technique in any way during long flights. No evidence has been found that mobile devices have any effect on aircraft electronics. The likelihood that such a danger really exists is minimal.

Pilot mobile devices. Passengers 'mobile devices do not really pose a danger to flight, but in the case of pilots' gadgets, the situation is completely different. A call to the pilot's phone at the time of landing in the form of an audio signal or even vibration distracts from an important maneuver. Once the pilot in such a situation even forgot to release the landing gear, endangering the lives of dozens of people.

Minimum fuel. This term usually refers to the amount of fuel that is enough for a flight between two desired points. But international legislation states that the liner must have a volume of fuel sufficient for the actual flight, as well as some additional volume for unforeseen circumstances. This is 3-5% of the bulk of the fuel. "Alternative fuel" - the volume provided for in the event of a leak. And even in addition to these additions, there is still fuel that will last for half an hour of flight. So pilots always have options to change their landing site in an emergency.
